Don't tempt a woman, they are dangerously intelligent!

A woman goes to Italy to attend a 2-week, company training session.

Her husband drives her to the airport and wishes her to have a good
trip.
The wife answers: "Thank you honey, what would you like me to bring for
you?"
The husband laughs and says: "An Italian girl!!!"
The woman kept quiet and left.
Two weeks later he picks her up in the airport and asks: "So, honey, how
the trip was?"
"Very good, thank you."  "And, what happened to my present?"
"Which present?" She asked.
"The one I asked for - an Italian girl!!"
"Oh, that" she said "Well, I did what I could; now we have to wait for
few months to see if it is a girl !!!"

Five lessons to make you think about the way we treat people.

1 - First Important Lesson - Cleaning Lady.

During my second month of college, our professor
gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student
and had breezed through the questions until I read
the last one:

"What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?"
Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the
cleaning woman several times. She was tall,
dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name?

I handed in my paper, leaving the last question
blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if
the last question would count toward our quiz grade.

"Absolutely," said the professor. "In your careers,
you will meet many people. All are significant. They
deserve your attention and care, even if all you do
is smile and say "hello."

I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her
name was Dorothy.

2. - Second Important Lesson - Pick-up in the Rain

One night, at 11:30 P.M., an older African American
woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway
trying to endure a lashing rainstorm. Her car had
broken down and she desperately needed a ride.
Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car.
A young white man stopped to help her, generally
unheard of in those conflict-filled 1960s. The man
took her to safety, helped her get assistance and
put her into a taxicab.

She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his
address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a
knock came on the man's door. To his surprise, a
giant console colour TV was delivered to his home. A
special note was attached..

It read:
"Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway
the other night. The rain drenched not only my
clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along.
Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying
husband's bedside just before he passed away. God
bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving
others."

Sincerely,
Mrs. Nat King Cole.

3 - Third Important Lesson - Always remember those
who serve.

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less,
a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and
sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in
front of him.

"How much is an ice cream sundae?" he asked.

"Fifty cents," replied the waitress.

The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and
studied the coins in it.

"Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?" he inquired.

By now more people were waiting for a table and the
waitress was growing impatient.

"Thirty-five cents," she brusquely replied.

The little boy again counted his coins.

"I'll have the plain ice cream," he said.

The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on
the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice
cream, paid the cashier and left. When the waitress
came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the
table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish,
were two nickels and five pennies..

You see, he couldn't have the sundae, because he had
to have enough left to leave her a tip.

4 - Fourth Important Lesson. - The obstacle in Our Path.

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a
roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if
anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the
king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by
and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the
King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did
anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of
vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the
peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the
stone to the side of the road. After much pushing
and straining, he finally succeeded. After the
peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed
a purse lying in the road where the boulder had
been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note
from the King indicating that the gold was for the
person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The
peasant learned what many of us never understand!

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve
our condition.

5 - Fifth Important Lesson - Giving When it Counts...

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a
hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who
was suffering from a rare & serious disease. Her only
chance of recovery appeared to be a blood
transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had
miraculously survived the same disease and had
developed the antibodies needed to combat the
illness. The doctor explained the situation to her
little brother, and asked the little boy if he would
be willing to give his blood to his sister.

I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a
deep breath and saying, "Yes I'll do it if it will
save her." As the transfusion progressed, he lay in
bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did,
seeing the colour returning to her cheek. Then his
face grew pale and his smile faded.

He looked up at the doctor and asked with a
trembling voice, "Will I start to die right away".

Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the
doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his
sister all of his blood in order to save her.

SOMEONE SPECIAL!

People come into your life for

a Reason, a Season, or a Lifetime.

When you figure out which it is, you know exactly what to do. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend, and they are. They are here for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, and our desire fulfilled; their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and it is now time to move on.

When people come into your life for a SEASON, it is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons; those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person; and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship has a special sense. Thank you for being a part of my life.

Math Wonder

Little Zachary was doing very badly in math. His

parents had tried everything: tutors, mentors, flash

cards, special learning centers. In short, everything

they could think of to help his math.

Finally, in a last ditch effort, they took Zachary

down and enrolled him in the local Catholic school.

After the first day, little Zachary came home with a

very serious look on his face. He didn't even kiss his mother hello.

Instead, he went straight to his room and started studying. Books and

papers were spread out all over the room and little Zachary was hard

at work.

His mother was amazed. She called him down to dinner.

To her shock, the minute he was done, he marched back to his room

without a word, and in no time, he was back hitting the books as hard

as before.

This went on for some time, day after day, while the mother tried to

understand what made all the

difference.

Finally, little Zachary brought home his report card.

He quietly laid it on the table, went up to his room

and hit the books.

With great trepidation, his Mom looked at it and to

her great surprise, little Zachary got an 'A' in

math. She could no longer hold her curiosity. She went to his room and

said, 'Son, what was it?

Was it the nuns?'

Little Zachary looked at her and shook his head, no.

'Well, then,' she replied, 'was it the books, the

discipline, the structure, the uniforms? WHAT WAS IT ALREADY'

Little Zachary looked at her and said, 'Well, on the

first day of school when I saw that guy nailed to the plus sign, I

knew they weren't fooling around.'

Letter to God....

A little boy wanted Rs.50 very badly and prayed for weeks, but nothing happened.

Finally he decided to write God a letter requesting the Rs.50.

When the postal authorities received the letter addressed to God, INDIA, they decided to forward
it to the President of the India as a joke.

The President was so amused, that he instructed his secretary to send the little boy Rs.20.

The President thought this would appear to be a lot of money (Rs.50) to a little boy,
and he did not want to spoil the kid.

The little boy was delighted with Rs.20, and decided to write a thank you note to God,
which read:

'Dear God: Thank you very much for sending the money.
However, I noticed that you sent it through the
Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, and those donkeys deducted Rs.30 as tax ... '

A Beautiful Heart

One day a young man was standing in the middle of the town proclaiming that he had the most beautiful heart in the whole valley.

A large crowd gathered and they all admired his heart for it was perfect. There was not a mark or a flaw in it. Yes, they all agreed it truly was the most beautiful heart they had ever seen. The young man was very proud and boasted more loudly about his beautiful heart.

Suddenly, an old man appeared at the front of the crowd and said, "Why your heart is not nearly as beautiful as mine." The crowd and the young man looked at the old man's heart. It was beating strongly, but full of scars, it had places where pieces had been removed and other pieces put in, but they didn't fit quite right and there were several jagged edges. In fact, in some places there were deep gouges where whole pieces missing.

The people stared. How can he say his heart is more beautiful?? they thought. The young man looked at the old man's heart and saw its state and laughed. "You must be joking," he said. "Compare your heart with mine, mine is perfect and yours is a mess of scars and tears."

"Yes," said the old man, "Yours is perfect looking but I would never trade with you. You see, every scar represents a person to whom I have given my love - I tear out a piece of my heart and give it to them, and often they give me a piece of their heart which fits into the empty place in my heart, but because the pieces aren't exact, I have some rough edges, which I cherish, because they remind me of the love we shared. Sometimes I have given pieces of my heart away, and the other person hasn't returned a piece of his heart to me. These are the empty gouges - giving love is taking a chance. Although these gouges are painful, they stay open, reminding me of the love I have for these people too, and I hope someday they may return and fill the space I have waiting. So now do you see what true beauty is?"

The young man stood silently with tears running down his cheeks. He walked up to the old man, reached into his perfect young and beautiful heart, and ripped a piece out. He offered it to the old man with trembling hands.

The old man took his offering, placed it in his heart and then took a piece from his old scarred heart and placed it in the wound in the young man's heart. It fit, but not perfectly, as there were some jagged edges.

The young man looked at his heart, not perfect anymore but more beautiful than ever, since love from the old man's heart flowed into his.

They embraced and walked away side by side.

INDIAN ENGLISH: IT VILL BE WERY HELPFUL, YAAR!"

It is the year 2020 and call centers are opening all over the West, as

the new economic power India outsources work to the countries where many

jobs originated. Millions of Americans, still struggling to adapt to a

global economy, are willing to accept jobs that pay them in a new

currency sweeping much of the world: EuRupees.

Some of them, eager to land one of the customer service jobs from India,

are attending special training sessions in New York City, led by

language specialist Dave Ramsey, who goes by a simpler name for his

Indian clients: Devendra Ramaswaminathan.

On this warm afternoon, the professor is teaching three ambitious

students how to communicate with Indian customers.

Professor: "Okay, Gary, Randy and Jane, first we need to give you Indian

names. Gary, from now on, you'll be known to your customers as Gaurav.

Randy, you'll be Ranjit. And Jane, you'll be Jagadamba.

Now imagine you just received a call from Delhi. What do you say?"

Gary: "Name as tea?"

Professor: "I think you mean 'namaste.' Very good. But what do you say

after that?"

Gary: "How can I help you?"

Professor: "You're on the right track. Anyone else?"

Jane: "How can I be helping you?"

Professor: "Good try! You're using the correct tense, but it's not quite

right. Anyone else?"

Randy: "How I can be helping you?"

Professor: "Wonderful! Word order is very important. Okay, let's try

some small talk. Give me a comment that would help you make a connection

with your Indian customers."

Randy: "It's really hot, isn't it?"

Professor: "The heat is always a good topic, but you haven't phrased it

correctly. Try again."

Randy: "It's deadly hot, isn't it?"

Professor: "That's better. But your tag question can be greatly

improved."

Randy: "It's deadly hot, no?"

Professor: "Wonderful! You can put 'no?' at the end of almost any

statement. You are understanding me, no?"

Jane: "Yes, we are understanding you, no?"

Professor (smiles): "We may need to review this later. But let's move on

to other things.

Have you ever heard Indians use the word 'yaar'?"

Randy: "Yes, my Indian friends use it all the time. Just last night, one

of them said to me, 'Randy, give me yaar password. I am needing it to

fix yaar computer."

Professor (laughs): "That's a different 'yaar,' yaar. The 'yaar' that

I'm talking about means friend or buddy. You can use it if you've

developed a camaraderie with a customer.

For example, you can say, 'Come on, yaar. I am offering you the best

deal.' Do you understand, Jagadamba?"

Jane: "Yaar, I do."

Professor (smiles): "Okay, let's talk about accents. If your client says

'I yam wery vorried about vat I bought for my vife,' how would you

respond?"

Randy: "Please don't be vorrying, yaar. She vill be wery happy and vill

give you a vild time tonight."

Professor: "Vunderful! I mean, wonderful. You have a bright future,

Ranjit. And so do you, Jagadamba.

But Gaurav, you haven't said anything in a while. Do you have any

questions about what we've just learned?"

Gary: "Yes, Professor, I do have one question: Wouldn't it be simpler to

learn to speak Hindi ?"

How do you eat your Masala Dosa?

There are many ways to eat a masala dosa .What ever the way one eats; there is a very good reason for doing that. It shows some traits of the person that is you…

Case 1: People who open the masala dosa and eat it: These are the people who are very open about their life. Everyone one the persons friends would know all about him/her. I have generally seen guys do this rather than girls. Some people think that it is a gross way of eating but in truth, these people are just portraying who they are and how their life is.

Case 2: People who start from both end and approach the masala later: These are the people who like to wait for the exiting things to come to their life. Sadly when the times comes, they are not too interested or just do not know how to enjoy it to the fullest. These are the folks who just want life as either dry or exiting. They just do not know how to phase their life and enjoy it no matter what. There are two types of people within this group

Case 2.1: People who do not finish all the masala: These folks just do not care as much for the fun times as they are already brought down by the harsh reality of life. The dry periods in their life has left them with so much scars that they do not want to be really happy when the time is right. They just take only as much as they needed and end their life. A very sorry state indeed.

Case 2.2: People who finish all the masala with the little dosa they have: These are the folks who just are the extremes. They just go all out in life. No matter it is dark or bright. They may not enjoy life to the fullest but they sure make sure that they get every single good and bad thing out of life. Sometimes these folks are really hard to get along with. They are either your best friends or your worst enemies. They do not have a middle path at all.

Case 3: People who start from the middle and proceed to both ends: These are the people who like to get right to what they think is their best part of life. Usually these guys finish of the good portions in a hurry and get stuck with nothing but worst parts of their life. The thing to note among these people is that the tendency to burn out very early in their life. Like the above case, there are two kinds of people in this group too.

Case 3.1: People who do not finish the dosa: These folks are really the saddest of people. They are the ones who tend to end their life as soon as it hits the bad patch. For them, they only need and want the best things in life and nothing more. Typically, they are not prepared or tuned to life as a whole. They just want to enjoy from first till last. Sadly, no one in the world can live without even an ounce of sadness in life. Not even the richest of the richest. But to self destruct at the mere sign of distress is very bad. That is what these guys tend to do. Some learn to live life but most of them do not.

Case 3.1: People who do finish the dosa: These folks are the typical human beings. We all enjoy the greatest of times in life and push the sad parts thinking about the great times in life. Typically the plate is clean and nothing is left for fate or in life. Happiness and sadness are part of life and these guys know that and are kind of prepared for it. Life is not always happy but there are moments of happiness here and there.

Case 4: People who eat the dosa making sure that the masala lasts for the whole dosa: These people are very rare. These are the people who like to attain balance in their life. It is hard to displease these people and it is hard to make them really happy. They like their balance and are very protective of it. Sadly these are the people who tend to be lonely as anyone else may upset the balance of their system. Perfectionist to the core and are very careful. These guys do not make the best company but are needed in any group to make the group from going hay wire.

Case 5: People who do not share and eat the dosa as if it is precious: These folks are very protective about their life. They do not want anyone to come and interfere in their life. They like to hide their true nature and intensions for their benefit. Beware of such people as they are in every group for their own need and nothing else.

Case 6: People who offer their first bite to others: These guys are overly friendly. They do anything to be part of a group and make everyone feel like the group is important than the individuals. They are the glue that holds any group together. They are very friendly and bring the best of all the others in the group. They go out of their way to help other friends. Most groups should have a person like this and they are the ones who plan the group outings and other group activities. Once this person is out of the group, typically the group slowly falls apart.

Case 7: People who take one or two bites and then offer the dosa to others: These guys care about friends and friendship but they take their time to get into the group. They take their time in making friends and they typically are very committed once into the friendship. These guys like to always be in the side lines and typically do not jump into anything in life. They always take their time to analyze the situation and then make a decision. These guys take the better safe than sorry approach.

Case 8: People who wait for others to make the offer first: Typical people I must say. They are unsure about everything. Even if they wanted to offer, they will wait till the other person offers the food first. If the other person is silent, so are these people. They are the followers. They do terrific idea, they will pitch it to someone else and get their advice before proceeding. Sadly, most of the elderly world like these types of people.

Case 9: People who offer dosa only when they cannot finish it on their own: You all may be familiar with these kinds of people. People who are very generous only when all their needs are fulfilled. These folks are selfish but at the same time not misers or greedy. They just want to satisfy themselves before they give it to the world. They typically do not stuff themselves nor do they tend to starve. They are very good people who would give you the best of advices in life. They would make sure that you are not sad following their advice.

Case 10: People who offer the whole dosa and eat from others plates: These folks are other extreme. They know what they want, they get what they want but they cannot enjoy what they want. Instead they tend to settle for other things in life which satisfies the needs but does not satisfy the person completely. These guys are termed as born losers cause even when they have the thing they wanted, they can't stop others from stealing it from them.

So next time you sit with a person eating a masala dosa, look closely and see if he falls into one of the above categories. You may be surprised as how much it reveals about the person*

Award Winning Story.... Too Good

There was a contest in TCS to write a fictional story for 500 words max which would start with the line :

"On a dark and foggy night, a small figure lay huddled on the railway  tracks leading to the Chennai station "

This is what a guy wrote for the contest....... and surprisingly, it was adjudged the best short story :))

On a dark and foggy night, a small figure lay huddled on the railway
tracks leading to the Chennai station. At once I was held back to see
someone in that position during midnight with no one around. With
curiosity taking the front seat, I went near the body and tried to
investigate it. There was blood all over the body which was lying face
down.

It seemed that a ruthless blow by the last train could have caused the end
of this body which seemed to be that of a guy of around my age. Amidst the
gory blood flow, I could see a folded white envelope which was fluttering
in the midnight wind. Carefully I took the blood stained envelope and was
surprised to see the phrase "appraisal letter" on it.

With curiosity rising every moment, I wasted no time in opening the
envelope to see if I can find some details about the dead guy. The tag
around the body's neck and the jazzy appraisal cover gave me the hint that
he might be a software engineer. I opened the envelope to find a shining
paper on which the appraisal details where typed in flying colors.
Thunders broke into my ears and lightening struck my heart when I saw the
appraisal amount of the dead guy!!!!! My God, it was not even, as much as
the cost of the letter on which the appraisal details were printed....

My heart poured out for the guy and huge calls were heard inside my mind
saying "no wonder, this guy died such a miserable death"...  As a fellow
worker in the same industry, I thought I should mourn for him for the sake
of respect and stood there with a heavy heart thinking of the shock that
he would have experienced when his manager had placed the appraisal letter
in his hand. I am sure his heart would have stopped and eyes would have
gone blank for few seconds looking at the near to nothing increment in his
salary.

While I mourned for him, for a second my hands froze to see the employee's
name in the appraisal letter... hey, what a strange co-incidence, this
guy's name is same as mine, including the initials. This was interesting.
With some mental strength, I turned the body upside down and found myself
fainted for a second. The guy not only had my name, but also looked
exactly like me. Same looks, same built, same name.... it was me who was
dead there!!!!!!!!

While I was lost in that shock, I felt someone patting on my shoulders. My
heart stopped completely, I could not breathe and sprung in fear to see
who was behind......... splash!!! Went the glass of water on my laptop
screen as I came out of my wild dream to see my manager standing behind my
chair patting on my shoulder saying, "wake up man? Come to meeting room
number two. I have your appraisal letter ready".

5 Ways to Eat Better and Live Longer

Plenty of diets claim to help you drop pounds, but few are backed by sound scientific evidence -- and their long-term health effects are unknown.

Fortunately, there is an eating plan that not only helps you control your weight, but also helps you maintain optimal health whether or not you're overweight. This diet is supported by the findings of the Landmark Nurses' Health Study and other important research.

In addition to getting regular exercise, not skipping meals and staying adequately hydrated (drink about 64 ounces of fluids daily), follow these five principles...

Principle 1. Eat lots of green, leafy vegetables. Everyone knows that it's good to eat fruits and vegetables. Produce is low in calories and provides disease-fighting antioxidants as well as fiber, which helps relieve constipation and curb cholesterol levels. Antioxidant deficiencies have been linked to heart disease, cancer, eye disease and age-related memory loss.

The Nurses' Health Study and Health Professionals' Follow-up Study reviewed the dietary intakes of 100,000 healthy men and women over a 12- to 14-year period. Those who had five or more daily servings of fruits and vegetables were more likely to stay healthy than those with lower intakes.

Important: Green, leafy vegetables, which are a rich source of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, conferred the greatest benefit. (For "A-list" and "B-list" vegetables, see below.)

Wisest: Precook your vegetables. Boil until they are half done and rinse in cold water. Let cool and refrigerate in a reseal-able plastic bag. Precooking doubles a vegetable's refrigerator shelf life. When you're ready to eat the vegetables, sauté in olive oil and garlic.

Principle 2. "Good" fats don't have to be boring. Your intake of saturated fat (found primarily in whole-fat dairy products and red meat) should be limited to one serving a day for whole-fat dairy and three four-ounce servings a week for red meat. Trans fats (found in baked goods, packaged snacks, crackers, margarine and many fast foods) are best eliminated.

But that doesn't mean that you should deprive yourself of all fats. Olive oil and fatty fish, such as salmon and tuna, are among the most well-known sources of healthful fat. Other options include cashews, almonds, peanut butter, avocados and soy products.

Helpful: Make an "omega-3" butter by mixing one-quarter cup of flaxseed oil with one-half cup of butter. This provides a better balance of fatty acids than butter alone. Refrigerate and use as you would butter, but only occasionally. Do not cook with omega-3 butter -- flaxseed oil can turn rancid when it's heated.

Principle 3. Don't get rid of all carbohydrates. Americans get half their daily calories, on average, from refined carbohydrates, such as white bread, white potatoes and white rice... ready-to-eat cereals... and baked goods. Whole grains, such as brown rice, barley, millet and whole-wheat pasta, are better choices. They'll give you long-lasting energy and lower your risk for heart disease and diabetes.

Like vegetables, whole grains can be precooked, stored in the refrigerator (for up to five days in a tightly covered container) and reheated before serving.

Best: Buy "quick-cooking" (partially precooked and dried) brown rice in your grocery store. It cooks in about 10 minutes.

Principle 4. Try underused protein sources. Most people get significant amounts of protein from red meat and whole-fat dairy products. However, these foods are also rich sources of saturated fat and cholesterol.

While reducing your intake of red meat and whole-fat dairy, add more plant-based protein sources. Good choices: Beans, nuts and grains, which contain less saturated fat and more fiber, vitamins, minerals and healthful fat. Fish, chicken and turkey can supplement these foods.

Peanut butter is a healthful and often-overlooked protein source. In the Nurses' Health Study, women who ate peanut butter five or more times a week had a 21% lower risk of developing diabetes than those who rarely ate it.

Best: For lunch, try peanut butter (without partially hydrogenated oils) on whole-grain bread. Add low-sugar jam, if you like. Other healthful protein sources include cottage cheese (1% butterfat), kidney beans, eggs and hummus. Soy products, such as edamame, soy milk and tempeh, also are good protein sources. But soy has an estrogen-like effect, so high intakes may increase risk for some types of breast cancer. Limit your intake to three to four servings of soy-based products weekly.

Principle 5. Don't forget a multivitamin. The Nurses' Health Study shows that after 10 or more years, the colon cancer risk was cut by more than half for women who took a daily multivitamin.

Better way: Skip "mega dose" multivitamins. A multivitamin that provides the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of most nutrients is fine. Exception: Vitamin D. The RDA is 400 international units (IU) per day, but studies show that most people need at least 1,000 IU per day.

"A-List" Veggies

Eat all you want of these very healthful vegetables...

All dark green, leafy vegetables (e.g., spinach, kale)

Artichokes

Asparagus

Beets

Bell peppers

Bok Choy

Broccoli

Brussels sprouts

Cabbage

Carrots

Rutabagas

Sweet potatoes

Turnips

Water chestnuts

Unthanked People

When William Stidger taught at Boston University, he once reflected upon the great number of unthanked people in his life. Those who had helped nurture him, inspire him or cared enough about him to leave a lasting impression.

One was a school teacher he'd not heard of in many years. But he remembered that she had gone out of her way to put a love of verse in him, and Will had loved poetry all his life. He wrote a letter of thanks to her.

The reply he received, written in the feeble scrawl of the aged, began, My dear Willie. He was delighted. Now over 50, bald and a professor, he didn't think there was a person left in the world who would call him Willie. Here is a copy of that letter

My dear Willie,

I cannot tell you how much your note meant to me. I am in my eighties, living alone in a small room, cooking my own meals, lonely and, like the last leaf of autumn, lingering behind. You will be interested to know that I taught school for 50 years and yours is the first note of appreciation I ever received. It came on a blue-cold morning and it cheered me as nothing has in many years.

Not prone to cry easily, Will wept over that note. She was one of the GREAT UNTHANKED PEOPLE from Will's past. You know them. We all do. The teacher who made a difference. That coach we'll never forget. The music instructor or Sunday school worker who helped us to believe in ourselves. That scout leader who cared.

We all remember people who shaped our lives in various ways. People whose influence changed us. Will Stidger found a way to show his appreciation — he wrote them letters.

WHO ARE SOME OF THE UNTHANKED PEOPLE FROM YOUR PAST IT MAY NOT BE TOO LATE TO SAY, THANKS. DO IT NOW. DO IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. TIME WAITS FOR NONE.

IF

by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream-and not make dreams your master;
If you can think-and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings-nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And-which is more-you'll be a Man, my son!

Cure For Sorrow

There is an old Chinese tale about a woman whose only son died.

In her grief, she went to the holy man and said, "What prayers, what magical incantations do you have to bring my son back to life?"

Instead of sending her away or reasoning with her, he said to her, "Fetch me a mustard seed from a home that has never known sorrow. We will use it to drive the sorrow out of your life."

The woman went off at once in search of that magical mustard seed. She came first to a splendid mansion, knocked at the door, and said, "I am looking for a home that has never known sorrow. Is this a place? It is very important to me."

They told her, "You've certainly come to the wrong place," and began to describe all the tragic things that recently had befallen them. The woman said to herself, "Who is better able to help these poor, unfortunate people that I, who have had misfortune of my own?"

She stayed to comfort them, and then went on in search of a home that had never known sorrow. But wherever she turned, in hovels and in other places, she found one tale after another of sadness and misfortune.

She became so involved in ministering to other people's grief that ultimately she forgot about her quest for the magical mustard seed, never realizing that it had, in fact, driven the sorrow out of her life.

Best Side Of Life

Life is Double-Sided;

There is a Wrong Side and a Right Side;

A Sad Side and a Happy Side.

There is a Good Side and a Bad Side;

A Black Side and a White Side.

So if things seem dark to you,

Just change your thoughts about.

Life will look quite different,

If you turn it the Best side out…..

A Life In Your Hands!

If a child lives with criticism, he learns to condemn;
If a child lives with hostility, he learns to fight;
If a child lives with ridicule, he learns to be shy;
If a child lives with shame, he learns to feel guilty;

If a child lives with tolerance, he learns to be patient;
If a child lives with encouragement, he learns confidence;
If a child lives with praise, he learns to appreciate;
If a child lives with fairness, he learns justice;

If a child lives with security, he learns to have faith;
If a child lives with approval, he learns to like himself;
If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, he learns to find love in the world.

The Mouse Story

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package... "What food might this contain?" The mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning. "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said,"Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it."

The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The pig sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it."

The mouse turned to the cow and said, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose. But wish you well; be assured you are in my prayers "So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap-- alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey. The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught.

In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer's wife.

The farmer rushed her to the hospital and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient. But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig. The farmer's wife did not get well; she died.

So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them. The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, Remember -- when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.

SEND THIS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS EVER HELPED YOU OUT AND LET THEM KNOW HOW IMPORTANT THEY ARE. REMEMBER:

EACH OF US IS A VITAL THREAD IN ANOTHER PERSON'S TAPESTRY; OUR LIVES ARE WOVEN TOGETHER FOR A REASON.

One of the best things to hold onto in this world is a friend.

Things we can learn from Dil Chahta Hai .. ..

  • Freaking out and enjoying life doesn't need drugs or cigarettes.
  • There are relationships apart from Bf/Gf, marriage, siblings, friendship that can be very emotional and true which is beyond the understanding of many people.
  • And yeah even though U may be the best of friends there is always a limit which should never be crossed. Then it starts hurting...........
  • Improving U r imperfections after you realize it, always take some time.
  • You always don't need to show or prove your Gf/Bf how much U love or care about her/him, which can sound very boring and finally U R dumped.
  • Believe in Love , true love will never let you down
  • Never be ashamed to go back to your old friends, friends are there to understand your mistakes.
  • Do not be afraid of others; always think that others are afraid of you. (Remember the Australian Beggar at the railway station ¦?)
  • Whenever you need your friend, remember that he/she is just a phone call away...distances can't separate friends.
  • In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.
  • It's the friends you can call up at 4 A. M. that matter.
  • The only unchangeable certainty is that nothing is certain or unchangeable.
  • The best kind of friend is the kinds you can sit on a porch and swing with never say a word, and then walk away with a feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.

The Year Niagara Falls Froze

The Niagara River, as is the entire Great Lakes Basin of which the river is an integral part, is a legacy of the last Ice Age.

Niagara Falls indeed has the ability to freeze over. It doesn’t happen so much anymore because of an ice boom. The ice boom keeps the river and the falls from clogging up with ice. This must be done to keep the water intakes for the hydro electric plants running.

In the early 20th centruy it used to become so clogged up that an ice would create bridge. Each year there would be a winter festival held on the ice bridge.

Explanation:

The tremendous volume of water never stops flowing, However, the falling water and mist create ice formations along the banks of the falls and river. This can result in mounds of ice as thick as fifty feet. If the Winter is cold for long enough, the ice will completely stretch across the river and form what is known as the "ice bridge". This ice bridge can extend for several miles down river until it reaches the area known as the lower rapids.

Until 1912,visitors were allowed to actually walk out on the ice bridge and view the Falls from below. February 24th of 1888 the local newspaper reported that at least 20,000 people watched or tobogganed on the ice. Shanties selling liquor, photographs and curiosities abounded. On February 4th 1912 the ice bridge broke up and three tourists lives were lost.

There can also be a great deal of "mini-icebergs" which flow down the Niagara River from frozen Lake Erie. The flow of ice has been reduced considerably by the yearly installation of the "ice-boom" on Lake Erie. The ice-boom is a long floating chain (2miles- 3.2 KM) of steel floats strung across the Niagara River from Buffalo New York to Fort Erie Ontario. It is set in place during the month of December and removed during the month of March or April. It is maintained by the New York State Power Authority. The ice boom helps prevent the ice from clogging the river and most importantly the hydroelectric companies water intakes.

HOWEVER.... The flow of water was stopped completely over both falls on March 29th 1848 due to an ice jam in the upper river for several hours. This is the only known time to have occurred. The Falls did not actually freeze over, but the flow was stopped to the point where people actually walked out and recovered artifacts from the riverbed!

Definition of Being Overweight

The most scale used by most professionals to determine acceptable weight is Body Mass Index (BMI). The BMI formula BMI = Weight (kg) / height (metre)2.

So your BMI could be easily worked out using the above formula. The result is then interpreted as follow:

  • below 20 = underweight
  • 20-25 = acceptable weight
  • 25-30 = overweight
  • 30-40 = obese
  • over 40 = morbidly obese
The acceptable range of 20-25 allows a women of 1.7 metres (5ft 7 in) to weight anything between 57.8kg to 72.25kg. The acceptable maximum weight for health is higher than many people would expect.

Another good indication of genuine overweight is the "waist circumference" test. This test is as below:

Man - indication

  • 94cm(37.5in) - OK
  • 94-101cm(37.5in-40.5in - further weight gain should be avoided
  • over 101cm(40.5in) - weight should be lost

Women - indication

  • 80cm(32in) - OK
  • 80-87cm (32-34.75in) - further weight gain should be avoided
  • over 87cm(34.75in) - weight should be lost

If you are on the borderline on the BMI system, the waist circumference test may help you decide which categories you belong to and what action you need to take.
